What is pH?
pH is the negative logarithm of the concentration of protons or hydrogen ions (H+) in a liquid, in our case water. If the concentration of protons is higher than that of hydroxide (OH–), the water is acidic. If the opposite, it is basic. The correct pH value of water should be known. The ideal pH value for a standard pool is between 6.9 and 7.4 depending on pool cover and water quality. Seawater pH is between 8 and 8.5 and high-altitude water around 7.
